Family Fun-day at Red Spice Road

March 28 2019 By melbournemamma Leave a Comment

lunch at red spice road melbourne

Lunch with the kids has never tasted or looked SO GOOD! thanks to Family Fun-day at Red Spice Road.

Red Spice Road have dedicated a day for little ones every Saturday and they’re bringing back the fun (and reducing the stress) of a family outing with a special kids menu, a uniquely Red Spice colouring-in poster, face-painting from Jesstar Play Magick, and kids board games.

My little guy (although I should probably stop calling him that now that’s he is 9) and I were recently invited to Red Spice Road so we could join the fun and we had such a good time.

It’s a great opportunity for kids to have a fun and tasty day with Red Spice Road team; and one that the big kids will actually enjoy too!

First off, I have a confession to make – I’ve never actually been to Red Spice Road before #embarrassing, but it has been on my “must visit” list for so long, so I was thrilled to be invited along. I’m kicking myself now for not going sooner because the food was AHHH-MAZING!!!

The kids lunch is $15 and they can choose between Fish & Chips, Chicken Schnitzel with Asian Slaw Salad, Chargrilled Vegetable Salad with Sesame Dressing (vegan) or Mini Meatballs with Homemade Tomato Sauce. Lunch also includes soft drink and ice cream.

My son choose the chicken schnitzel for his lunch, but then sweet talked me in to ordering Red Spice Road’s signature Pork Belly dish and the Prawn Pad Thai (as part of my tasting menu), so he could try those as well. Somehow he even managed to squeeze in some freshly made icecream too. All were given an enthusiastic two thumbs up.

I couldn’t decide what appealed to me most, so I went with the Lunch Tasting Menu, which included serves of some of their most popular dishes. Red Spice Road can cater for all dietary needs, so they were easily able to substitute some of the dishes on the tasting menu to suit my vegetarian requirements.

I indulged in a vegetable curry (pretty much the yummiest curry I’ve EVER tasted), the most delicious tofu san choy bau (this dish was soooooo yummy – I’m sure even carnivores would like this one). For dessert I had Coconut Water Tapioca with Passionfruit Cream, Peanut Praline, Caramel Popcorn and Lychee Sorbet – OH. MY. YUMMY!!!

There are a stack of boardgames to keep everyone entertained (I’d forgotten how much fun Guess Who? can be – even when you lose), as well as facepainting and balloon creations.

My son was rather impressed with his arm “tattoo” and couldn’t wait to show it off for the rest of the day.

Family fun-day runs every Saturday from 12pm-3pm. Bookings are essential. For more info visit www.redspiceroad.com.

Pixar Putt at St Kilda Foreshore

Kick some serious putt at Pixar Putt

A Disney Pixar-themed mini golf experience has popped-up in St Kilda and it’s loads of fun for all ages.

pixar putt course st kilda

Melbourne’s newest miniature golf course is inspired by everyone’s favourite Disney Pixar’s films, including classics like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Wall-E, Up and Coco and more.

We were recently invited along to play the course and we had so much fun.

We’re a competitive bunch *fun times*, so we all play to win but I’m pleased to report that I scored not one BUT two hole-in-ones and took the victory!

disney pixar putt golf course

Visitors can choose between playing a nine-hole round ($24.90 Adults, $19.90 Kids or $79.60 Families) or the full 18-hole course ($39.90 Adults, $29.90 Kids or $119.60 Families).

Where: St Kilda Triangle (next to Palais Theatre)
When: Daily until Sunday, March 31 2019

Tickets can be purchased at the course however, I recommend purchasing tickets online before you go.

Melbourne’s Pink Lake

February 26 2019 By melbournemamma Leave a Comment

All you need to know about the Pink Lake

Have you heard about Melbourne’s Pink Lake?

If you’ve seen the photos on social media, you’ve probably been thinking that someone gone a little OTT with a filter (or three) to create such images but I can assure you they haven’t because I went to the pink lake and it’s pretty friggin’ fabulous!

Located next to the Westgate Bridge at Westgate Park in Port Melbourne, the salt lake turns pink seasonally, in response to high salt levels, high temperatures, increased sunlight and lack of rainfall.   Algae growing in the salt crust produces the red pigment in response to the extremely high salt levels. The lake returns to its normal colour as the weather cools and rainfall increases.

The lake needs to be seen to be believed and it’s definitely worth taking the kids for a look – just make sure they do not touch the water.

Westgate Park - Pink Lake Melbourne

Location: Westgate Park, 4 Wharf Rd, Port Melbourne

Getting there: Westgate Park is located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River, under the Westgate Bridge. Limited parking is available within the park off Todd Road, Port Melbourne. Catching the bus is a great way to visit Westgate Park, with the #235, #237 and #606 bus route running past the park .

I absolutely LOVED this book and am so excited to I absolutely LOVED this book and am so excited to find out that it is being made into a movie.

Have you read this or any other of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books?

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship and a great forbidden love.

Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.”
