2020 Reading Challenge

January 1 2020 By melbournemamma 4 Comments

2020 Reading Challenge

Calling all book lovers! I’ve set myself a reading challenge for 2020 and I’d love for you to join me.

I know what it’s like to be a busy mum (ie not have much time for reading), so I’ll only include 12 books in the challenge. However, I’ll include an additional six books for those of you who will have no problem smashing through 12 books in one year.

As a chronic migraine sufferer, I don’t get to read as often as I’d like too but I’m pretty happy that I managed to read 17 books throughout 2019. For this year, I’m aiming to read 20 books.

See how I went in my 2019 reading challenge here.

I can’t wait to get started on this challenge and hopefully find some new favourites that I just can’t put down.

Must reads books for 2020

  • A book recommended by your local library
  • A book by a favourite author
  • A book starting with the same letter as your first name
  • A book with a flower on the cover
  • A book written by a first time author
  • A bestseller from 2019
  • A book that will improve your life
  • A book you read when you were in high school
  • A young adult book
  • A book recommended by someone you don’t know
  • A book you meant to read in 2019
  • A book written by a famous author who you have never read before

Extras books to read

  • A bestseller from the 1980s
  • A book you currently own but have not read
  • A book being made in to a movie this year
  • A book with a colour in the title
  • A book recommended by a celebrity you admire
  • A book that I’ve read for this challenge (look through my comments here OR search #mmreadingchallenge2020 on Instagram)

Let me know if you’re joining me in the comments below (put your book titles in the comment section NOT the URL field) and feel free to come back and list the books you read throughout the year and let me know if you enjoyed them or not.

Keep an eye out for the books I’m reading and tag your own books on social media using #mmreadingchallenge2020

    Love your options list!
I’ve started strong this yea -a lready knocked 5 off – including a book I meant to read in 2019 (Crawdads) and a book being made into a movie (Big Little Lies) and a favourite author (Kellerman, not great but I enhaled his Delaware series in my youth,.. forgive me lol). This time last year I was at zero so happy to plug away with some different options from your list.
    Cheers, K

I cannot believe it’s already August! Being stuck at home during lockdown has enabled me to read more books and here’s the list of challenge books I’ve read so far:

A book starting with the same letter as your first name – The Wife and the Widow (Christian White)
A book with a flower on the cover – Just One Wish (Rachel Johns)
A book written by a first time author – The Silent Patient (Alex Michaelides)
A bestseller from 2019 – Where the Crawdads Sing (Delia Owens)
A book that will improve your life – Me Time (Jessica Sanders)
A young adult book – A Good Girls Guide to Murder (Holly Jackson)
A book recommended by someone you don’t know – The Last Letter (Rebecca Yaros)
A book you meant to read in 2019 – I Am Pilgrim (Terry Hayes)
A book written by a famous author who you have never read before – Run Away (Harlan Coben)

    What a year!!!

I’ve got to admit that when I wished I had more time to read at the start of the year, I never imagined that I would have lots more time to read thanks to a global pandemic and a nearly six month lockdown here in Melbourne.

I’ve actually managed to read 30 books this year, which is be the most of I have read in a year, since my migraines started in 2002, after my car accident.

Here are the books I read as part of this years reading challenge:

A book recommended by your local library – American Dirt (Jeanine Cummins)
A book by a favourite author – That Was Then, This Is Now (S.E. Hinton)
A book you read when you were in high school – The Outsiders (S.E. Hinton)

Stay tuned for my 2021 Reading Challenge

How cool is my son’s latest @lego project - Dom’s Charger from Fast and Furious 🖤👦🏻⁣
⁣
Based on the iconic 1970s Dodge Charger R/T, it’s packed with authentic details. The opening hood reveals a model version of the iconic V8 engine. Other cool features include moving pistons, wishbone suspension, steering system and air blower. There are even nitro bottles in the trunk to bring Dom's daring high-speed chases to life. Just like the real thing!⁣

Now we just need @lego to create Brian’s Supra 🧡😉⁣

“1959: Grace is a young mother with four children under four. All she ever wanted was to have a family of her own, but there are thoughts Grace cannot share with anyone in the months after childbirth. Instead she pours her deepest fears into the pages of a notebook, hiding them where she knows husband Patrick will never look. When Grace falls pregnant again, she turns to her sister, Maryanne, for help.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1996: When Beth's father, Patrick, is diagnosed with dementia, she and her siblings make the heart-wrenching decision to put him into care. As Beth is clearing the family home, she discovers a series of notes. Patrick's children grew up believing their mother died in a car accident, but these notes suggest something much darker may be true.”⁣⁣⁣
