2022 Reading Challenge

January 2 2022 By melbournemamma 14 Comments

Attention book lovers! I’ve set myself a reading challenge for 2022 and I’d love for you to join me.

I’ve only included 12 books in the challenge because I know what it’s like to be a busy mum. However, I’ll also include an additional six books for those of you who will have no problem smashing through 12 books in one year.

Spending another year in and out of lockdown meant I had a bit more time to read in 2021 and I managed to read 28 books. You can see which ones were my favourites here. You can see how I went in my 2021 reading challenge here.

I’m going to try and read 28 books again this year. I’ve just started a new migraine treatment too, so hopefully, I’ll have fewer migraines and it will be easier for me to read more.

I can’t wait to get started on this challenge and hopefully find some new favourites that I just can’t put down.

Must read books for 2022 Reading Challenge

  • A book with 22 letters in the title
  • A book with an animal on the cover
  • A bestseller from the 1990s
  • A book with a pretty cover
  • A book with “good” or “bad” in the title
  • A book recommended by someone on Instagram or Facebook
  • A book written by a local author
  • A book with a colour in the name
  • A book with gold lettering
  • A book with more than 600 pages
  • A book that has been translated from another language
  • A book being made into a movie this year

Extra books to read

  • A historical fiction book
  • A book published in 2022
  • A guilty pleasure book
  • A book that will improve your life
  • One of my favourite reads from 2021
  • A different book by an author that you read in 2021

Let me know if you’re joining the reading challenge in the comments below (put your book titles in the comment section NOT the URL field) and feel free to come back and list the books you read throughout the year and let me know if you enjoyed them or not.

Keep an eye out for the books I’m reading and make sure you tag your own books on social media using #mmreadingchallenge2022

I hope you enjoy my 2022 Reading Challenge.

this came up as a sponsored post on my FB, and I’m like, “yes I’m in”. A lot of your themes are my themes, so it made sense to play along.
In 2021 read the most books I have ever read in a year (70), this year I’m aiming for 52 (a book a week). I always have a physical book (or ebook), and audiobook on the go.
I’m also making sure I do more book reviews both on my blog and on tiktok.

I love this list and I love that it’s themed and not an actual set list.

Currently reading – It ends with us by Colleen Hoover. I read. This could fit into a few categories- pretty cover or previous author from ‘21

I still cannot believe that 2022 has come to an end. I feel like this year has absolutely flown by.

I read 29 books in 2022, and discovered some terrific authors that I have not read before.

Unfortunately, I did miss a few books for the challenge because I kept getting sidetracked reading books that I saw people recommending on Instagram. I’ll see if I can read the ones I missed in 2023.

Here are the books I read for my 2022 reading challenge:

A book with 22 letters in the title – A Solitary Walk on the Moon (Hilde Hinton)
A book with an animal on the cover – Migrations (Charlotte McConaghy)
    A bestseller from the 1990s – ??

A book written by a local author – The Housemate (Sarah Bailey)
A book with a colour in the name – ??
A book with gold lettering – The Lincoln Highway (Amor Towles)
A book with more than 600 pages – The Winners (Fredrik Backman)
A book that has been translated from another language – My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry (Fredrik Backman)
A book being made into a movie this year – The Nightingale (Kristin Hannah)

    EXTRAS
A historical fiction book – The Things We Cannot Say (Kelly Rimmer)

Kyoto was a beautiful contrast to the bright light Kyoto was a beautiful contrast to the bright lights of Osaka.

We loved wandering through its historic streets, discovering incredible temples and gardens, and experiencing the slower more traditional side of Japan. Every place we visited felt special and full of history.

While the boys headed off to the Samurai Ninja Museum for some action-packed fun, my daughter and I enjoyed making our own rings at a Japanese ring-making workshop. It was such and fun and unique experience to share together.

We also made a lunch stop at Nishiki Market – a must for food lovers! So many incredible sights and flavours to discover (and I may have developed a slight addiction to furikake… 🤭IYKYK).

In the evening we strolled through Gion and the Shirakawa Canal area before enjoying a delicious Thai dinner, which was a welcome change after so much amazing Japanese food.

Nara was the perfect little escape from the energy of Osaka. It offered a beautiful mic of history, nature and culture.

From wandering through Nara Park with the friendly (and very determined) deer to exploring ancient temples and peaceful gardens, it was a day full of unforgettable memories.

A quick day trip but definitely one of our Japan highlights.

Osaka was the perfect way to kick off our Japan ad Osaka was the perfect way to kick off our Japan adventure. From the bright lights of Dotonbori and endless shopping to incredible food, temples, arcades and plenty of family laughs, this city delivered.

Our trip didn’t quite go to plan after Jetstar cancelled our flight, which meant we lost a day of our holiday 😟. It wasn’t the start we’d hoped for but we made the most of every moment we had.

The weather was hot and humid, but that didn’t stop us exploring this incredible city. We loved wandering through the neon streets of Dotonbori, shopping Shinsaibashi, exploring Den Den Town and taking in the beauty of Namba Yasaka Shrine and Osaka Castle.

And of course, the food did not disappoint! From delicious gyoza to incredible pizza (yes, pizza in Japan deserves a mention 🤤), cheesecake, egg sandwiches IYKYK, and everything in between, Osaka is a foodie’s dream.

Just finished ‘Fifty Fifty’ by Steve Cavanagh and Just finished ‘Fifty Fifty’ by Steve Cavanagh and wow, what a ride.

I could not put this one down… ended up reading until 2:30 am to finish it! Such a clever, gripping story that keeps you guessing the whole way through.

Honestly, the entire Eddie Flynn series is fantastic. If you love fast-paced legal thrillers, these are absolute must-reads.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“Alexandra Avellino has just found her father’s mutilated body, and needs the police right away. She believes her sister killed him, and that she is still in the house with a knife.

Sofia Avellino has just found her father’s mutilated body and needs the police right away. She believes her sister, Alexandra did it, and that she is still in the house, locked in the bathroom.

Both women are to go on trial at the same time. A joint trial in front of one jury.

But one of these women is lying. One of them is a murderer. Sitting in a jail cell, about to go on trial with her sister for murder, you might think that this is the last place she expected to be.

You’d be wrong.”
