Christmas Gift Guide 2014

November 28 2014 By melbournemamma 2 Comments

Only 27 sleeps until the man in red gets all the glory for delivering the best Christmas presents ever, so if ‘he’ hasn’t quite finished organising the gifts, here’s a few ideas from some fabulous local stores to help him/you along the way.

I’ve divided them up into age groups by gender (very politically incorrect I know) but I just wanted to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

Yes, I know that (most) toys are suitable for both boys AND girls but seriously, I’m not sure there are many boys out there who would want a gold sequin handbag or girls that are interested in a Darth Vader money box (even though it is pretty freakin’ cool). …

Shop Local Christmas 2014

November 21 2014 By melbournemamma Leave a Comment

Hello there

By now you are probably aware that I am VERY passionate about supporting local businesses here in Melbourne and there is no better time to show your support than now – in the lead up to Christmas.

There are a lot of reasons why you should shop local (and you can read about some of them here on one of my earlier posts) but have you ever thought about what you are actually giving back to your community. …

Review: Mocka Box Cart

October 14 2014 By melbournemamma Leave a Comment

The lovely folks at Mocka Australia recently sent me a Box Cart for the kids (and their daddy) to play with.

I remember my brother had a billy cart when we were kids and we loved it. (Hopefully my kids will not be reading this) I can remember us flying down the bridge at the end of our street at a million miles an hour with NO helmets!!! We had so much fun, so I was hoping my kids would love their new box cart too – wearing their helmets, of course!  …

I went into this book knowing very little about th I went into this book knowing very little about the Vietnam War, and it was a real eye-opener.

Kristin Hannah has an incredible gift for bringing history to life, and The Women is no exception. This emotional and powerful story follows the experiences of women who served during the war - stories that are often overlooked - and it left a lasting impact on me. I love historical fiction, and Kristin is truly a master storyteller.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Women can be heroes, too’. When twenty-year-old nursing student, Frances “Frankie” McGrath, hears these unexpected words, it is a revelation. Raised on California’s idyllic Coronado Island and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing, being a good girl. But in 1965 the world is changing, and she suddenly imagines a different path for her life. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she impulsively joins the Army Nurses Corps and follows his path.

As green and inexperienced as the young men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war, as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed America. Frankie will also discover the true value of female friendship and the heartbreak that love can cause.”

Have you read this or any of Kristin’s other books?
