B-DAY Today!

July 4 2013 By melbournemamma 3 Comments

Today was B-DAY!

No, not my birthday (that was two weeks ago). It was time for another dose of Botox to treat my migraines.

For the past 21 months, I have been having Botox injected in to my head, neck and shoulder to help control my migraines. Every 12 weeks, I visit my Neurologist and he stabs me approximately 40 times with a syringe full of Botox.

The migraines are the result of an accident I had 11 years ago.

Although the treatment isn’t working as well as I hoped it would, I have gone from having migraines 3-5 days every week (yes, every single week, since 2002) to only 1 or 2 a week. This may not sound that good to you but believe me,  it’s much better than before.

It’s hard being mum to two small children and always being sick. My daughter used to ask what was wrong with me when I didn’t have a migraine (which broke my heart).

Sometimes I feel like my kids miss out on doing things because of my condition, and it makes me feel guilty. They are such great kids and they always TRY to be on their very best behaviour when they know mummy is sick.

I am eternally thankful for the support of my husband, family and friends, who are there for me when I’m struggling.

You can read more about my treatments here.

I am a chronic (daily) migraine sufferer also and live on the mornington peninsula.
I have tried many medications to prevent them, only Deseril works. The relief is incredible but it is a nasty drug and it has to be stopped every six months for a time. I am wanting to try botox and have an appointment with the Neurologist Richard Stark. He cannot see me until February 2014!!!!
I wondered who you go to and if you have any recommendations. I would far prefer botox than other drugs if it works and I’ll only find out by trying – thanks

      Hi Vivien
Sorry to hear you are also a sufferer. I was on Deseril for awhile but it didn’t provide much relief for me. I’ve popped more pills that I could ever count and unfortunately none provide the relief like Botox does.
I am also a patient of Dr Stark. He is a fantastic, so definitely worth waiting for. I’ve been seeing him for 11 years and he is one of the top migraine specialists in Australia.
If you have any questions or would like to find out more about the treatment I have, please feel free to contact me at melbournemamma@bigpond.com.
      take care
      Tracey

Safe to say we picked the perfect time to visit Sy Safe to say we picked the perfect time to visit Sydney ✨

With Vivid lighting up the city every night, we’ve been treated to an incredible show from our apartment and around Darling Harbour 🌟

This spectacular light show was the perfect way to end the evening. Sydney really knows how to put on a show ❤️

Just finished ‘Fifty Fifty’ by Steve Cavanagh and Just finished ‘Fifty Fifty’ by Steve Cavanagh and wow, what a ride.

I could not put this one down… ended up reading until 2:30 am to finish it! Such a clever, gripping story that keeps you guessing the whole way through.

Honestly, the entire Eddie Flynn series is fantastic. If you love fast-paced legal thrillers, these are absolute must-reads.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“Alexandra Avellino has just found her father’s mutilated body, and needs the police right away. She believes her sister killed him, and that she is still in the house with a knife.

Sofia Avellino has just found her father’s mutilated body and needs the police right away. She believes her sister, Alexandra did it, and that she is still in the house, locked in the bathroom.

Both women are to go on trial at the same time. A joint trial in front of one jury.

But one of these women is lying. One of them is a murderer. Sitting in a jail cell, about to go on trial with her sister for murder, you might think that this is the last place she expected to be.

You’d be wrong.”

Over the years I’ve had a few false starts thanks to anemia, high blood pressure and the flu 🤦🏻‍♀️ but we got there in the end 🙌

Feels pretty special knowing this could help someone else the way I was once helped ❤️
