I’ll start with a horror story (which I now find funny). Somehow I managed to break my wrist at my 10th birthday party. We were playing the game where you dance around and when the music stops, everyone has to sit on the floor and the last person to sit is eliminated. During the game I managed to snap my wrist backwards when I sat down and ended up spending the rest of my birthday in the emergency room. It really was my party and I cried because I wanted (needed) too.

I have a horror story, we have no pergola and one year having my sons birthday we put up a temporary cheap plastic pergola and it was soooo windy that day that everything went flying, the pergola literally lifted and fell over.. knocking everything off the tables, all the food and with people in it!! Pretty horrifying!!!
    🙁

We went all out for our daughter’s 1st birthday (her health complications meant we felt like we’d hibernated the entire year, so the birthday was the celebration for us re-entering the real world). My husband’s from a big Italian family, so we had more than 100 people on the guest list. I worked for WEEKS planning food, decorations and everything for a “Very Hungry Caterpillar” theme (including “holes” in the slices of salami, just like the book). We even had a film crew there because we’d asked for people to donate to the Mercy Breast Milk bank in lieu of gifts and the Mercy had sent a film crew. The day went so fast, as these days do. Looking back after the dust settled, I realised that we have NOT.A.SINGLE.PHOTO.OF.THE.ENTIRE.DAY. I mean honestly, not a single shot on a phone or camera of anything of the day. And I never heard back from the film crew so don’t even know if any footage exists. Great way to make memories. #partyfail

Mine is more funny than horror I guess. For my daughter’s 4th bday a friend helped me make an alice in wonderland cake and it was truly amazing from chocolate ganache, fondant of every color and sugar art cups and teapots.. everything on this extravagant cake was edible and just after we sang happy birthday I explained just this to a friend (and gloating a little) then the lady who helped make the cake quickly interupts to say maybe take the candles out of your girls mouth.. they’re actually not edible.. a little embarrassed ha ha Next party we’ll keep it simple..well we’ll try

Not a total party horror story, just a vivid memory of when all of my daughter’s party guests at her 3rd birthday got to witness her ‘dark side’ as she screamed at another little guest who blew out her candles before she did!

For my daughter’s 1st bday we got a jumping castle & us adults though why should the kids have all the fun? So we got all the kids out & in we went not realising how many of us actually got in. Within minutes of bouncing away the jumping castle deflated; we were like screaming cockroaches…laughing too much that we couldn’t even call out for help. Thankfully my hubby had gone to the loo & when he returned got the jumping castle up….you just had to be there to understand how hilarious it was; I still cry from laughter when I watch the video footage. .lol

We planned to have a party for our daughters first birthday with 40 guests in the park as we live in a small apartment. Of course after weeks of sunshine, it rained solidly for the whole day. Ended up being a very cramped celebration in our cosy living room :S

Mine is a horror story or a funny story, depending on your perspective 😉

Many years ago, I attended the 6th bithday party of a good friend. We were playing musical chairs, and what we didn’t really know then (but know well now) is that I have somewhat of a competetive streak. It’s the final moments of the game, 1 chair, 2 competitors – me and the birthday girl. The music stops and birthday girl sits on the chair, hooray! But wait, runner-up me is not done yet, I push her off the chair and claim it for my own. The parents, distracted by the onerous task of starting and stopping the music, must not have seen exactly what went down, because I was awarded the monstrous 4-finger Kit Kat reserved for the winner… and it was delicious 😉

Not the worst horror story lol more of a planned party gone wrong!
I spent ages planning my 1st sons 4th Birthday! all our family and friends kids invited and his best friends from crèche!

First child so a party at home seems like a great idea…
the theme was Motor Bikes! we had piñatas, I made lolly bags the whole deal…

The main thing/activite was meant to be the motor bike rides! we had arranged for 2 small four wheeler bikes for the kids to have turns on. They were late then wouldn’t work!!!! oops….

Was also the first and last at home birthday party

Sometimes home parties are more trouble and stress than they’re worth Jodie. Hopefully the boys got distracted by pinatas and forgot about the motor bikes.

Wasn’t funny at the time but something to laugh about now.
My sister inlaw ordered a Birthday cake and provided an image of what was to be on the cake. At the party when cutting the cake, realized the image was not on edible paper but just the picture printed on an A4 piece of paper and put on top of the cake!!! She had to remove the sheet of paper before cutting and serving the cake. Never went back to that cake supplier again!

My son hated his birthday parties. He wouldn’t participate in his parties at all. He wouldn’t eat any of the food and hated the cake and the singing of happy birthday would him in tears. He has autism and his sensitivities made it hard for him to cope. Now we understand these things we keep his parties small make sure he has pizza and potato chips and a soft drink and he now participates. But if he doesn’t have pizza he wont eat at his or anyone elses birthday. So this is the perfect party for us. Good luck every one.

After much begging I conceded to have my daughters 6 year old party at home – 15 kids made their own pizzas and then (while the pizza’s cooked) trampled shredded cheese from one end of the house to the other.. Seriously everywhere! Her 7 year old party was at Bounce – prob cost $100 more but for all the prep time and cleaning up afterwards it was completely worth it.

This is probably going to end up humorous (in a few years) and horrifying at the same time! Its our daughters first birthday in 2 weeks and I’ve been planning away for months! Except we’re trying to fit 40-50 plus kids in our small 3 bedroom house with a small deck area! Plus we have huge loud VERY outspoken family members which you just never know which way its going to go! Plus some of the family are meeting for the very first time and because of a few issues we have no idea how its going to go down!!
