Four weeks ago, I had Botox! Not for my wrinkles (although I could probably do with some for those too) but for my migraines!

They say desperate times call for desperate measures and believe me, I was desperate.

I HATE needles and sat there anxiously as my neurologist injected me 41 times in the head, neck and shoulders – ouch!

9 1/2 years ago I was in a really bad car accident. Luckily, I survived but unfortunately one of my ongoing issues from that day is migraines. For anyone who has never had a migraine, it’s hard to know what it’s like (just think about the worst headache or hangover you’ve ever had, then multiply it by 1000) but those of you who do suffer, I know you feel my pain.

I have migraines between 2-5 days every week. Since my accident I have kept a diary of when I have them and as I look back through the records it saddens me to see how much of my life has been effected.

For the past 9 years, I have had a migraine (on average) 127 days of the year, which basically means, during the last 9 year I’ve had a migraine for THREE YEARS. That’s three years of my life that I cannot get back, but I’m lucky to be alive so I must not complain (that’s what I tell myself). It’s just VERY frustrating!

Before I became a mum, I spent A LOT of time in bed unable to do even everyday tasks. Since becoming a mum, I no longer have the luxury of just “going for a lie down” until the worst of it passes. It’s hard explaining to a 3 year old and an 18 month old that mummy is sick and that they need to try and be quiet (as if).

In fact, Imy migraines are so frequent, that my three year old daughter is actually surprised when I don’t have one.

I have tried every treatment and medication around but unfortunately have not had much success in keeping them under control (the migraines that is, not the kids).

Since having the injections four weeks ago I am happy to say that I have had fewer migraines! I’ve even managed to go for seven days without one. They are still there but not as frequent or as painful as usual, so for me that is wonderful, I feel like a different person.

We’re hoping that the Botox injections will help with the pain in my neck and right shoulder, both of which were also injured in the accident.

I’m not sure why people would choose to have Botox injected in their face (for wrinkles) – the procedure is painful and the feeling afterwards is uncomfortable. My whole head feels tight, kinda like when you get sunburnt and the skin feels like it might split. My eyebrows are pretty much frozen in place too but I can put up with that though as it sure beats having the pain.

I’m going back for more injections in 8 weeks but this time my doctor will also put me on a daily preventative, so hopefully that will work even better (fingers crossed).

It’s still early days but I’ll keep you posted on my progress over the coming months.

I cannot believe it has already been one month since the sale. So many fabulous things have been going on behind the scenes at Melbourne Mamma, that the month has simply flown by.

Sunday, 21 August 2011 marked the very first Melbourne Mamma’s Market & what a fantastic sale it was.

Nearly 30 of Melbourne’s favourite kid’s retailers & designers came together in Essendon and brought with them more than 80 designer labels with all items marked down by 50-80% .

Eager VIP shoppers began lining up just after 8.30 am in anticipation of the 10.00 am start. As soon as the doors opened, almost 100 shoppers flooded into the hall in search of some fabulous bargains. Many emerged later, arms laden with bags & huge grins on their faces. They were very happy mammas indeed.

As more shoppers arrived for the 10.30am general entry, many of them wondered whether the VIP shoppers had left anything inside – I was beginning to wonder this too as I sat at the entrance watching them leave with bags full of goodies.

For the next few hours more than 700 shoppers grabbed some of the best bargains they’ve ever seen. There were squeals of delight & plenty of oh-my-gods as they snapped up items for their little ones.

Thirsty and hungry shoppers & stallholders were kept well nourished by Sweet Cravings Patisserie (THE best cupcakes ever) & Cruising Cuppa. Little ones were kept busy at the craft table & entertained by the wonderful Mini Picasso’s and the gorgeous fairies from Fairy Wings and Wishes delighted the kids with balloons and face painting.

Even though I left my shopping run till a little late in the day (note to self: next time, do not open doors till i have had time to shop hehe) – i still managed to grab some great bargains for my kids, along with a father’s day present for my hubby & also some gorgeous goodies for myself.

The next sale is going to be even more fabulous than the first and there is also a women’s version of the sale on the way too – which means lots of fabulous bargains for us mammas!

Wow! Time sure flies when you’re having fun. Sometimes I wonder if it should be “time sure flies because you’re so busy doing a million and one things, that you’re not even sure what day it is!”

Things have been a little crazy here at Melbourne Mamma HQ.

My little man has just recovered from a case of Hand, Foot & Mouth disease. “Isn’t that what cows get?” I hear some of you ask. I asked the exact same thing (in astonishment) when I got the call from childcare asking me to come & pick him up. Thankfully, it was only a mild case with small blisters on his hands & feet and not in his mouth. It meant I had a little boy who wanted extra cuddles from his mamma for several days & heaven forbid, anyone else try to give him one. Oh, the joys of going to childcare. I wonder what he’ll come home with this week. A finger painting would be a nice change.

On the market side of things, there’s so much to tell I don’t even know where to start. I’ve just had eight more retailers register to join me on the day. They’ll be bringing a fantastic range of baby & kids clothing, shoes, baby gifts & now maternity wear. I’m thrilled to announce that there will now be more than 70 designer labels on sale on the day! Every time I read through the list my heart skips a beat.

VIP tickets are now on sale & selling fast. If you like the sound of early entry (so you can grab the best bargains first), a goodie bag to take home (containing fabulous samples, discount vouchers & more) and bonus entries into the prize draws, then you would make the perfect VIP shopper. Tickets are $10 and are available for pre-purchase only from here.

Make sure you keep an eye on the “Market” and “Stallholder” pages to see who will be there on the day.

Hope you had time to enjoy the gorgeous sunny day.

Hi, welcome to Melbourne Mamma – For Mums Who Love To Shop.

My name is Tracey & I am a shopaholic. There, I said it, it’s out there, there’s no point hiding it. I LOVE SHOPPING!

I’ve always been a shopper – according to my mum, from the time I was old enough to talk, walk & carry a purse, I loved shopping. Trips to the shops would involve me taking my own shopping list, written by my mum & dictated by yours truly. Apparently even going to the fruit shop was a thrill (perhaps an early indication that I would later become a vegetarian).

Since becoming a mamma, my focus has switched from buying items for myself & my home, to purchasing gorgeous goodies for my kids. I never imagined shopping for little ones could be so much fun!

When my daughter arrived, I went nuts, there were (& still are) so many gorgeous things around for girls, that I just couldn’t help myself. I had to have everything & sometimes everything in every colour!

When my little man arrived, I thought (for a brief moment) that my bank balance would be safe. Given that I’d never really shopped for boys, I assumed that I would never fall in love with as many things as I did with my daughter. How wrong was I????

One of the things I love most about shopping is finding items on SALE!  I spend a lot of time driving all over Melbourne going to fabulous sales, which is often very time consuming, not to mention difficult with kids in tow. Even my online shopping addiction is taking away from time spent with facebook, oops, I mean family.

So, I decided to create Melbourne Mamma’s Market, an end of season designer label kids sale, featuring all your favourite stores & labels in one convenient location! Not only is this going to save you (& me) time but the $$$ savings on offer are going to be huge!

I’ll also share news of sales, both locally & from around the globe and help you find the best bargains, for your little ones & yourself.

I look forward to sharing with you the things I love in life, the places I love to shop & the gorgeous goodies & fabulous bargains I find along the way.

Happy Shopping ♥

Tracey
