Cool Fun at Medibank Icehouse + Giveaway

January 11 2015 By melbournemamma 32 Comments

We recently headed to Medibank Icehouse at Docklands to check out their Under 8’s Ice FUN sessions.

I haven’t skated since the 80s and my kids have never done it before, so we were all excited and a little nervous (or maybe that was just me).

Under 8’s Ice FUN is a drop in session designed to introduce toddlers and children to ice skating. Ice Ambassadors will assist and take the children through games using toys, music and snow play areas to give your child a totally different toddler experience.

When: every Sunday 9am – 10am
Who: children under 8 – Parents can join their children on the ice in skates or shoes.
What to wear: warm comfortable clothes, long socks and gloves. Change of clothes is recommended as children will be playing in snow. Skates or shoes can be worn by children and adults.

Don’t forget the warm clothing! We went on a day that was really hot and silly me forgot to put jumpers and jackets in my bag, so some of us were a little chilly  – oops!

As you can see, the kids had so much fun.

Master 4 was quite happy to have someone push him around on the seal and collect ice to throw at me and his sister.

Miss 7 (aka Miss Independent) enjoyed pushing her own seal around or skating with me while we held hands.

Thankfully I didn’t have any stacks and the kids declared me “the best skater” on the day. I’m still waiting for my trophy though. I bet my husband has hidden it because they didn’t pick him 😉

If you head down to the Icehouse these school holidays, there are a tonne of activities to suit kids of all ages. Choose from Wonderballz (this looks like SO MUCH FUN), free ice skating lessons, Under 8’s Ice FUN sessions or go and try your hand at ice hockey.

For more details on the school holidays program, visit www.icehouse.com.au/home/whats-on/school-holidays.

We keep cool in the Melbourne summer just splashing about in the kids toddler pool, and then cranking up the aircon when we come indoors. But a morning out at Medibank Icehouse would be awesome!!!

We tend to hibernate during the hottest days, blinds down and air conditioning on. When heat of the day has passed you can find Poss jumping on the trampoline and us spraying her with the hose… old school fun!

And you know I follow you on IG!

We love lazy days in the backyard pool. I’m not a fan so I sit happily in the shade reading and getting splashed. A LOT.

To kill two birds with one stone they say. I have found two great uses for the garden hose. The kids love to cool down by running under the hose whilst I water the garden.

In my uni days I lived in a bedsitter with a tin roof and had a kiddie wading pool in the living room! These days it is with a portable air con, trips to the local shopping centre where it is nice and cool, lots of cold water and icy poles! Cold showers are also good!

The heat doesn’t keep our active family from enjoying the outdoors, so lots of beach and pool visits, along with normal trips to the zoo, parks, friends, etc. we try to cool down with icy poles in the bath when we get home. (But ice skating sounds like a good plan)
