2025 Reading Challenge

January 7 2025 By melbournemamma 2 Comments

Hey there, book lovers! Are you ready to dive into a year filled with incredible stories? I’ve created a brand new reading challenge for 2025, and I’d love for you to join me.

To keep things fun and manageable, I’ve designed the challenge around 12 books — just one a month. Perfect, right? But for those of you who breeze through books, I’ve included an optional six extra books.

I devoured an amazing 28 books in 2024. It was one of my most book-filled years yet, and I loved every moment. You can check out my 2024 reading challenge here and see my absolute favourites from the year here. I’m hoping to read just as many (or maybe even more) in 2025.

I can’t wait to see what treasures 2025 holds for us. Let’s discover some unputdownable reads together — because every bookish journey is better with friends! Are you in? Drop a comment below and let me know if you’re joining the challenge!

Happy reading!

And just like that, 2025 comes to an end…

I read 22 books in 2025. Unfortunately, I didn’t read as many five-star books as I’ve read in the past but there were still a number of great reads in the mix.

Here are the books I read for my 2025 reading challenge:

A book with 25 letters in the title – When Things Are Alive They Hum (Hannah Bent)
A book with food on the cover – All My Mothers (Joanna Glen)
A book written by someone who uses a pseudonym – We Were Liars (E. Lockhart)
    A bestseller from 2005 – N/A
A book you can finish in one day – The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride (Joe Siple)
A book by an Australian author – The Ledge (Christian White)
A book starting with the letter M – My Friends (Fredrik Backman)
A book with a red cover – The Women (Kristin Hannah)
A book with a two word title – The Liar (Steve Cavanagh)
A book with an animal in the title – Once There Were Wolves (Charlotte McConaghy)
A book that has been on your reading list for 3+ years – Th1rteen (Steve Cavanagh)
The first book in a series – Water (John Boyne)

    EXTRAS
A 2025 new release – Wild Dark Shore (Charlotte McConaghy)
A book recommended by a celebrity – The Family Upstairs (Lisa Jewell)
A book you want to read based purely on the cover – Atmosphere (Taylor Jenkins Reid)
A book recommended by your local library – Here One Moment (Liane Moriarty)
A book with 500+ pages – All the Colours of the Dark (Chris Whitaker)

Just finished Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConag Just finished Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy and… Wow!!!
What. A. Ride. 📚

From the very first chapter, I was hooked. And the twists? I did not see them coming.

Charlotte McConaghy proves once again why Australian authors are absolutely unmatched when it comes to vivid storytelling and emotional punch 🇦🇺📚

It’s beautifully written, deeply moving, and completely unputdownable.
Highly, highly recommend!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“Dominic Salt and his three children are caretakers of Shearwater, a tiny island not far from Antarctica. Home to the world’s largest seed bank, Shearwater was once full of researchers. But with sea levels rising, the Salts are now its final inhabitants, packing up the seeds before they are transported to safer ground.

Despite the wild beauty of life here, isolation has taken its toll on the Salts. Raff, 18 and suffering his first heartbreak, can only find relief at his punching bag; Fen, 17, has started spending her nights on the beach among the seals; 9-year-old Orly, obsessed with botany, fears the loss of his beloved natural world; and Dominic can’t stop turning back towards the past, and the loss that drove the family to Shearwater in the first place.

Then, during the worst storm the island has ever seen, a woman washes up on shore. As the Salts nurse the woman, Rowan, back to life, their suspicion gives way to affection, and they finally begin to feel like a family again. Rowan, long accustomed to protecting her heart, begins to fall for the Salts, too. But Rowan isn’t telling the whole truth about why she set out for Shearwater. And when she discovers the sabotaged radios and a freshly dug grave, she realises Dominic is keeping his own dark secrets.”
